Located near the West Gate, the 96th Medical Group provides comprehensive medical care to approximately 83,000 eligible beneficiaries (active-duty military members, retirees, and their families). The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. It currently has an six-bed intensive care unit and a 56-bed facility. As a teaching facility, the hospital has an active residency program in dentistry and family practice in which they allow residents the opportunity to develop and enrich their clinical and academic capabilities. The 96th Medical Group provides a wide variety of outpatient services and presently supports one of the larger outpatient workloads in the Air Force. Complete ancillary support services are available as well as a 43-chair dental clinic. Continuing efforts to expand services to hospital users led to a $32 million clinic addition and hospital renovation project that began in May 2002.

The hospital also operates a newly renovated satellite refill pharmacy located in the Memorial Trail Shopping Center (by the Base Exchange) for easy one-stop shopping.

Eglin hospital has an enthusiastic TRICARE office with Health Benefits Advisors available to assist beneficiaries with enrollment information, claims, and filing procedures. The TRICARE office operates such diverse programs as the Debt Collection Assistance Officer, Beneficiary Counseling Assistance Coordinator, Resource Sharing Program and the Supplemental Care Program as well as issuing non-availability statements when necessary.

Vital components of the hospital staff include the American Red Cross Volunteers and the Retiree Activities Office Volunteers. Activities sponsored by the Red Cross include entertainment and recreation for patients. In addition, volunteers staff numerous positions to augment the assigned staff. Military retirees staff the hospital’s Information Desk located at the clinic entrance of the building.
