Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
Your BAH will be used in one of two ways. You can either rent on base or you can live off base. If you live off base, you can either rent or buy. Click Here for current BAH rates.

Elgin Air Force Base is home to the 96th Air Base Wing which offers support in areas such as personnel, communications, medical and security for the Air Armament Center. Eglin Air Force Base is the main hub for all Air Force Armaments and has been instrumental in the development, testing, and deployment of all air-delivered weapons. Two of the projects at Eglin include the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile and the High-speed anti-radiation missile. Elgin offers over 2,000 on-post military family housing units as well as several dormitories for single enlisted members. Many facilities were being renovated in 2011, and more information can be obtained by contacting the housing office for potential waiting list. Off-post housing is offered through Picerne Military Housing which provides residential housing units for one, two and three family dwellings. Apartment complexes are also available in nearby communities such as Crestview, Pensacola, and Valparaiso.
Eglin Air Force Base has an on-site Child Development Center that provides child care services to children from 6 weeks up to 5 years of age. There are numerous elementary, middle and his schools offered as well as colleges offering graduate and undergraduate program. Private schools, gifted children and special needs are also offered. In the main base area, elementary children will attend either Oak Hill or Cherokee Elementary schoolds. The middle school is located just outside the West Gate. The on-post youth center provides children from 5 to 18 years with sports programs, instructional classes, and before-and-after school care. Basketball, baseball, soccer, and cheerleading are some of the many activities provided. More than 200 children frequent the development center on a daily bases.
